Try new batteries. Digital cameras are power hungry devices. Even just opening a door takes a lot.
If it still doesn’t work, and it’s just the door, try pushing it gently, with a cotton swab, without touching the lens, while it is supposed to be fully opened. Gently.
At its age probably not worth repairing unfortunately when you can replace cheaper.

Panasonic Lumix 8.1 megapixels. It’s over 5 years old so warranty is out.. It’s trying to open but won’t.

Thanks so much. Looks like I may go for a newer model some of which have 24 Megapixels.
