Your work, however seems a little more surreal but I already see a story developing moreso from the glazed, hazy photos with just a little emphasis on the wording.
Would love to know more of the true story behind the Chinese Providence but I suspect lots of it relating to the Opium Wars & the Chinese migration to the USA that must have followed?
A few movies have touched on the subject- (1 was ? ‘Dead man on a horse’) with a famous Chinese actress who’s name I can’t recall? Like all immigration there must have been all kinds of exploitation both sexual & otherwise- as you’re depicting with the flogging shot. I imagine this was a very tough time for them?
My family came here in the middle of the 18th century and were merchants.
